Mixed Martial Arts
Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques. A fighter can utilize more traditional martial arts to present day fighting or combat techniques. The rules allow the use of striking, submissions, and grappling techniques. These techniques can be used while on the ground or standing up and facing your opponent. Martial artists and fighters of different backgrounds will face off and compete against each other to see who is better.
Mixed Martial Arts History
Modern MMA competition was born in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A competition originally started to find the most effective martial art for real fights competitors were pitted against one another with hardly any safety rules. Later the organization implemented rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors which led the sport to be accepted by the mainstream. Following the changes MMA has seen increased in popularity with surpassing boxing and professional wrestling as a sport.

Mixed Martial Arts Core Concepts
Our Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training sessions teaches the following martial arts:
- Greco-Roman wrestling
- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Key lessons include:
- range awareness,
- boxing stances and punches
- Muay Thai fundamentals including legs, clinches, knees, and elbows
- Ground techniques
- Self-defense strategies
This is a fundamentals class designed to help new students learn the basic skills and techniques offered by the different art forms. The course introduces the core concepts that will prove invaluable in all of our classes. We also train students in boxing fundamentals including footwork and timing. Students who master these basic concepts may choose to move on to our advanced class.
Mixed Martial Arts Advanced Classes
Once you have mastered the core classwork you will be able to progress to the mixed martial arts advanced class. Participants must demonstrate an ability to participate in fight training at the most demanding levels. It is very physical at this stage of training and coursework. A premium is placed on participants’ fitness condition and willingness to improve all aspects of their fight game. Specialized training and safety equipment is required for protection.
In order to excel in mixed martial arts athletes must become proficient in many different disciplines. Kickboxing is one that is essential in MMA. This course sharpens and enhances the skills of both our advanced and beginner students. Technical instruction, drills, and sparring are all the norm in our kickboxing classes.
To be an above average MMA fighter you must be well rounded. Our boxing classes teach both beginners and our advanced class the fundamentals as well as advanced boxing techniques. Boxing and striking is essential to competing in mixed martial arts.
